Guatemala continues to struggle with high levels of poverty and social exclusion, particularly amongst its indigenous population. In some rural areas of Quetzaltenango, poverty levels are as high as 93.8 per cent. People from these areas are likely to migrate, for example to the capital of the department, in search of work and a better life. Young people often abandon their studies in order to migrate, find work and contribute to the family income. Migration often leads to the disintegration of family stability and hence to increased violence or, in the worst cases, to the abandonment of children.
It is our mission to provide compassion as we distribute shoes to Guatemalans in need. Your donations are what make this charitable trip a reality and we appreciate your generosity in helping us raise the funds to cover the following expenses:
- Freight: 20′ container = $3,000
- Customs: $500
- Flights: Dallas – Guatemala City ($500 x 3 staff members) = $1,500
- Housing: ($150 day x 4) = $600
- Transportation: $600
- Meals: ($100 day x 4) = $400
______________
TOTAL: $6,600
